Exactly how not to organize your next camping trip
With the appearance of July you could say that summer is now in complete bloom. And what better way to enjoy in summer than with that very best of summertime entertainments – proceeding to an alternative part of the country you are not familiar with in order to live in a tent and eat possibly burned or scarcely cooked food. The best part is, enjoy the magic of getting your water from a faucet down the street (if you are lucky) instead of from the well known and easy to use sink in your home. And let us not forget the wonders of getting out of bed in the middle of the night to grope around for a flashlight so you can talk a walk through the dark unknown to a chilly unlit toilet, occasionally even of the kind that is not alot more than a straightforward hole in the ground. Sure enough, it is time for that wonder of wonders – camping!
I must own up to relishing camping, generally have. When I was a child we would certainly all look forward to that two week holiday in the summer. Many months before my Dad would take out the maps of the neighboring states and start to discuss with my Mother about the many different merits of the Oregon Coast versus the mountains of Washington. They would send away for a number of pamphlets and look at a lot of campgrounds when making the decision. Needless to say, today it is all basically a matter of pulling up a small amount of searches on the net to see which State Parks are actually readily available for camping. If you reside in California, as I do, you will want to search just a little deeper than most except if you made a booking a minimum of a year in advance. I know some sites that open up for reservations on the same day each and every year and are booked solid inside of a few hours for the whole season.
With that being said, I nonetheless felt a small joy when a friend of my own and I made a decision that this year we really were going to camp together. We had talked of this not too long ago, but in some manner neither of us truly got around to taking care of it and so we never went. But this year, I am determined to find us a camping site and a weekend getaway. Our first choice, Catalina Island’s Two Harbors looked good initially. The net site was easy to find, all the sites had calendars informing us those that were booked and those were readily available. But after quite a few emails to and fro, we established that the only weekend left available in the summer was the saturday and sunday she was traveling away to a Yoga Retreat. Therefore, regretfully, we determined that the trip to Catalina Island would have to wait for a different time.
I am nevertheless on the search for a different campsite but this time I have no illusions. For me to come across something halfway decent that isn’t booked will probably mean exiting the state. I am preparing to start looking real soon. I might even find something today or tomorrow. Just as soon as I get this blog completed, my writing tasks submitted and the pages put in to my own sites. Well, perhaps I will get to it tomorrow. But this week – I mean it – I will get that camping trip arranged.
